Moana Voyages leadership is fully committed to the company's sustainability performance and endorses the company's mission statement and policy in this regard.
We will use the Travelife platform to report on our sustainability progress to monitor it. We are committed to communicating our sustainability performance every two years.
Sustainability management & legal compliance
Moana Voyages commits to continuous improvement of sustainability practices, including the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of our sustainability policy, with dedicated personnel and resources to achieve our sustainability goals.
Our agency follows all local, national, and international regulations as they relate to human resources, human rights, children’s rights, land rights, environmental management and wildlife. We follow a zero-tolerance policy for corruption, bribery, forced labor, and discrimination.

Internal management: environment
Environmental management of office operations
We are committed to keeping the direct footprint of our business operations as low as possible and actively following environmentally friendly principles.
To do this, we communicate our commitment to responsible environmental management and encourage environmental responsibility among our employees and stakeholders.
- We follow all local and national regulations regarding environmental law.
- We provide office supplies
- Our purchases are made locally, in bulk, with limited packaging, certified sustainable whenever possible.
- All equipment and lighting are energy efficient and turned off or in sleep mode when not in use
Purchasing policy
Although options can be limited in the remote Pacific islands compared to other destinations, Moana Voyages is committed to favour sustainable suppliers and products, whenever these are available and of sufficient quality.
- Our sustainable purchasing policy is based on the following principles:
- Giving preference to products with a recognized environmental or sustainability certificate, label, or with proven sustainability qualities
- Giving preference to products that are locally produced, with respect for people and the environment
- Buying from local suppliers and social enterprises when possible
- Buying products with less packaging
- Buying products that are reusable to limit the consumption of disposable products
- Buying products that are produced with eco-friendly resources
- Buying products that are made to be durable and that can be easily repaired to increase the lifespan
- Whenever possible, we rent or find a way to share items
- We only purchase from suppliers that abide by all local, national and international laws
Waste reduction policy
We pay particular attention to reducing our waste on a daily basis. Although we produce very little waste due to the nature of our activities, reducing our consumption is a significant matter for us. The Moana Voyages team proactively participates in the effective and ongoing management of waste that we cannot avoid.
Our internal waste reduction policy is based on the following principles:
- Reducing the quantity of waste to the strict minimum
- Fighting against food waste
- Limiting the use of single-use packaging
- Encouraging the purchase of products with a reduced impact on the environment
- Extending the lifespan of products by maintaining and repairing them
- Recycling our waste
Following these principles, we have successfully implemented the following practices:
- Providing water fountains and water bottles to all staff in our group of companies (200 water bottles ordered) in order to avoid the use of plastic bottles
- Reducing our paper printing to the strict minimum with double-sided printing settings
- Digitalizing of our travelers’s documents (itineraries and vouchers)
- Purchasing reusable tableware to limit the consumption of disposable tableware
- Buying wired keyboard and computer mice (less harmful to the environment)
- Setting up collection points for waste in each space within our offices
- Setting up waste bins outside our offices to sort recyclable waste (paper, cardboard, plastic and aluminum packaging) which is then collected and processed by the municipality
Moana Voyages ensures that these practices are maintained over time. In order to familiarize our team with the right practices, we maintain clear communication of the principles of our waste reduction policy through emails and displays on our premises.
The prevention and reduction practices that we have put in place have enabled us to reduce the environmental impact of our activities, strengthen the commitment of our teams and reduce long-term costs.
Pollution reduction policy
Due to the nature of its activity, Moana Voyages does not produce nor is in contact with a significant amount of harmful substances. The only chemicals that are handled in our offices are cleaning materials, in small quantities. Nonetheless, our team has identified a few principles offering pollution reduction opportunities.
Our pollution reduction policy is based on the following principles:
- Replacing toxic materials by nontoxic or less-toxic ones whenever possible
- Giving preference to products made of recycled materials or materials that can be reused or recycled
- Encouraging water and electricity conservation through awareness-raising among our team
Carbon management of office operations
Moana Voyages is committed to reducing its carbon footprint by:
- Monitoring and measuring carbon footprint with the aim to reduce as much as possible and offset remaining amounts.
- Commiting to offsetting our remaining direct and indirect carbon from travel and fossil energy use via atmosfair.
- Installing energy efficient equipment and appliances (such as computers and air conditioning)
Carbon management of business travel
We also consistently measure our team’s business travel emission. Yearly comparisons are made with the aim to reduce and offset travel related carbon footprint.
These business travel emission calculated include :
- Roundtrip house-to-office commuting
- Site inspection trips
We are committed to reducing travel related carbon footprint by:
- Reducing travels as much as possible
- Encouraging teleworking whenever possible
Land use
Moana Voyages offices are located in an urban area and abides by all local land use laws.
General suppliers policy
- Moana Voyages is committed to sourcing its products and services responsibly, avoiding harmful impacts on society, culture and nature as much as possible. We expect the same level of engagement and commitment from our suppliers.
- Moana Voyages prefers to work with partners that share the company’s commitment towards sustainability. This means that we prefer partners that have a written sustainability statement as an integral part of their business policy and/or a clear sustainability policy in place.
- Moana Voyages prefers to work with suppliers that are locally owned or managed, use local and seasonal products and services and benefit the local community by hiring locally and equitably and by providing fair working conditions.
- Whenever possible, Moana Voyages prefers to select partner companies that comply with tourism-specific, internationally recognized (GSTC-accredited) certifications, or other sustainability certifications.
- Moana Voyages will end immediately any relationships with suppliers that violate local, national and international regulations, specifically through acts of bribery, corruption, discrimination, and violation of human rights.
- Moana Voyages raises awareness amongst its suppliers to adopt sound social and environmental practices, and to minimise their carbon footprint.
Transport
- When selecting transport for guests, Moana Voyages commits to choosing the most environmentally friendly options available for travelling to, from and withing the destination - taking into consideration distance, price, route and comfort.
Accommodations
- In the accommodation selection process, Moana Voyages considers the sustainability practices of its potential future partners by taking into account their sustainability management and social and environmental footprint.
- Moana Voyages favours the selection of accommodations that respect and protect land use, as well as respectfully highlight elements of local architecture, customs and traditions
- Moana Voyages has identified the initiatives of its most committed suppliers in order to highlight them in our catalog. We thus invite our travelers to choose partners displaying good practices.
- Moana Voyages does not contract directly or indirectly accommodations which are involved in compulsory labour or which employ children to complete work which is normally undertaken by adults. There are special working times and conditions for children working within the business, in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and/or the ILO convention 138.
- In case of clear evidence that accommodations jeopardize the provision or integrity of basic services such as food, water, energy, healthcare or soil to the neighboring communities, it can be reason to terminate the cooperation with the accommodation.
Activities & Excursions
- Moana Voyages offers no activities that harm humans, animals, plants, natural resources (e.g. water/energy), or which are socially/culturally unacceptable.
- Wildlife species are not harvested, consumed, displayed, sold, or traded.
- Excursions which include interactions with wildlife comply with relevant codes of conduct. Taking into account cumulative impacts, they do not lead to any adverse effects on the viability and behavior of populations in the wild. Any disturbance of natural ecosystems is minimised, rehabilitated, and there is a compensatory contribution to conservation management.
- Excursions in which captive wildlife is held are not offered, except for properly regulated activities in compliance with local, national and international law. In case of living specimens of protected and wildlife species, these are only kept by those authorized and suitably equipped to house and care for them humanely.
- Moana Voyages gives preference to excursions and activities that benefit local communities, respect cultural integrity and animal welfare and support environmental protection.
- Moana Voyages has identified the initiatives of its most committed activities and excursions providers in order to highlight them in our catalog. We thus encourage our travelers to choose service providers displaying good practices.
Destination
Sustainable destination
Moana Voyages focuses on one main destination, the Islands of Tahiti (in addition to a few other destinations of the Pacific), which has committed to sustainability as an integral part of its development.
Contribution to local communities / local economic network
Moana Voyages commits to positive contribution to the destination in which it operates, by:
- Sourcing locally and responsibly, and supporting local and traditional arts and culture
- Encouraging travelers to shop responsibly and educating them about prohibited souvenirs
- Contributing, along with local partners, to the Islands of Tahiti's new tourism development strategy. This strategy focuses on several lines of sustainable development such as the involvement of local population, community-centered planning, the promotion of cultural identity and the balance of tourism benefits across the islands.
- Respecting and advocating for all human rights

Moana Voyages commits to environmental stewardship in the destination in which it operates by educating travelers about the principles of responsible travel and responsible visitor behaviour

- Accomodations, activities and excursions that display good practices in terms of sustainability

- Recommendations to travel responsibly in the Islands of Tahiti and to preserve their beauty

- Moana Voyages aims for all travelers experiences to be positive, for themselves as well as the destination in general and all stakeholders involved, directly or indirectly.
- Moana Voyages maintains open lines of communication with its customers and encourages feedback at any time and on any topic, including sustainability.
